I rag on Vegas all the time because of the lack of culture. However, to be fair, there are a few places that really try their hardest to bring culture to the city, even if they don't entirely complete the goal. Here are my top 3 places that are are the closest to getting it right.
I've written about SP before, but I really can't say enough good things about them. They have really great social media presence, and they didn't just open up and sit on their exhibits. They are always making new great exhibits, as well as keeping the tried and true, like hosting their annual ice cream festival. Since I've moved to the other side of town, it's hard to go, but I need to go because that is where Molto Vegas; Bet the Farm is being held now, which I've also written about previously.
I have not written about the Smith Center before, but I will as soon as I get a second on the house...so I can go to a show there. I have been inside however, and it's Art Deco heaven. Also since it has opened, Las Vegas finally has a place that enables traveling theatre shows and music concerts without walking through a smoke filled casino. They did not spare any expense on looks for this place, which even if you aren't into Art Deco you can see they are decadent and amazing.
I can't really say that these guys try that hard. Just check out their web page above. But, it's just naturally cool, all these pinball machines everywhere. If you have a stack of quarters, you can feel like a kid for an entire afternoon, yelling at your friends to check out what you just found around the next corner. You can literally do this for hours, and I have a friend who actually takes all his first dates here. If the girls turn up their noses at it, they don't get a second date.
