The Vegas Argot

"What is argot; properly speaking? Argot is the language of misery." Victor Hugo, Les Miserables
Argot is a secret language, often used by thieves and miscreants so the people around them don't know the horrible plans they are making.

Sometimes I feel that way about Vegas locals.  When walking by a group of tourists on the strip we say "Tourist or Hooker?"  We laugh at the falling down drunk guys outside the clubs trying desperately to get inside to get some booty.

We even laugh as you puke from your hangover before boarding your plane home.

It's not always like this, though.  I'm not always so down on Vegas, but the truth is I've been living here for 5 years and have yet to find a sense of community, save for a few people who do Pub Trivia every week.  I come from a place with an extreme sense of community, with activities to meet your neighbors and have something to do on a Saturday afternoon that doesn't involve drinking.

In truth, there are many different languages in Vegas, many different perspectives.  This is one of them.
